About CDR

Mission, vision, and values

Since 1994, Cultural Diversity Resources has served as the intercultural bridge that strengthens bonds and facilitates understanding among the diverse communities of Fargo-Moorhead.

Our mission is building communities that value diversity. Our vision is a Fargo-Moorhead where every resident, whatever their culture, language, or income, can participate fully and where racial, social, and economic disparities are steadily reduced. We work toward it through opportunity, education, and leadership.

Our mission

Building communities that value diversity.

We inform, educate, and assist everyone, increase diversity and inclusion in our communities, and create opportunities by eliminating barriers to community participation. We work with all ethnically diverse populations in the area and help them become more self-sufficient at both personal and professional levels.

Our vision

A community that embraces its ever-increasing cultures.

The forums that founded CDR in 1993 called for a permanent, system-wide framework that celebrates the cultures of the community and reduces racial, social, and economic disparities. We envision a Fargo-Moorhead where diversity is treated as the asset it is: making us better employers, educators, and neighbors.

Our values

The principles behind every program

  • Opportunity

We open doors to jobs, business ownership, education, and financial security for people who have been shut out of them.

  • Education

From financial literacy to SEED seminars, we believe understanding changes lives, families, and institutions.

  • Leadership

We develop leaders from within ethnic communities so that change is led by the people it affects.

  • Self-sufficiency

Give an individual a fish and you feed them for a day; teach them to fish and you feed them for a lifetime. Our help is designed to build independence.

  • Collaboration

Through the Multicultural Alliance and dozens of partners, we share resources and avoid duplicating services so the whole community is served.

  • Respect for every culture and faith

We serve everyone regardless of background and support religious freedom when helping others in need.

Why it matters in Fargo-Moorhead

The growing diversity of the upper plains region challenges us to build communities that value diversity through sharing of ideas while considering the points of view of others. The diversity of the region is an asset that makes us better employers, educators, and community members.

For more than 100 years, our region has built upon the assets of diversity to create vibrant, welcoming, and engaging communities. These efforts have played significant roles in the social and economic development of the region through increasing regional and global business development, expanded educational opportunities, and the encouragement of all community members to make contributions using their special talents, expertise, and knowledge.
