About CDR

Who we are

Changing Faces, Changing Futures, Enriching Lives

Cultural Diversity Resources (CDR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has served the Fargo-Moorhead metro area, Cass County in North Dakota, and Clay County in Minnesota as an intercultural bridge since 1994. We help diverse communities overcome barriers to participation through financial literacy education, small business training, self-sufficiency assistance, cultural events, and cultural awareness programs.

In 1993, Fargo-Moorhead metro area leaders held several forums to identify community issues needing urgent attention. It was determined that the community needed to embrace its increasing ethnic diversity and assist diverse populations in overcoming barriers to community participation. Consequently, a cultural diversity project was established in 1994 with programs to increase understanding of diversity and inclusiveness, and in turn develop a permanent system-wide framework aimed at celebrating the ever increasing cultures of the community and reducing racial, social, and economic disparities.

A project development team was formed to develop the mission and long-term goals, coordinate involvement with key stakeholders in the community, and seek funding for the project. Cultural Diversity Resources (CDR) was incorporated in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. CDR serves the Fargo-Moorhead metro area, Cass County in North Dakota, and Clay County in Minnesota.

Since 1994, CDR has served as an intercultural bridge to connect diverse communities. With growing multicultural populations, our goals are to inform, educate, and assist everyone, increase financial literacy and connections among communities, and create opportunities by eliminating barriers to community participation.

We work with all ethnically diverse populations in the area and help them become more self-sufficient at both personal and professional levels. CDR's programs range from certified bilingual interpretive services and job readiness to financial literacy education impacting the Fargo-Moorhead metro area.

CDR has partnered with several other nonprofits for this purpose, convenes the Multicultural Alliance, works with AmeriCorps through sponsorship of the VISTA program, and is the fiscal agent for SEED as a community partner.

How we serve the community

Cultural awareness

Our cross-cultural taskforce organizes community forums and meetings to understand challenges and share ideas. Together they identify overlaps or gaps in services to better align resources and promote a more equitable frame for civic engagement.

Resources

We provide the community with economic and productive resources that we identify as self-sufficiency needs, through referrals, vouchers, and online applications.

Programs

Families and individuals are provided opportunities for education, job training, counseling, and other forms of social service assistance so they can obtain the skills necessary to achieve self-sufficiency.
